Breakthrough with JW mother - Stunning Anti Witness !
by diamondblue1974 ini thought i would share this with you as i am still a little bit stunned to say the least.
my mother who is a longstanding jw came to stay over the christmas period as my uncle had past away and she wanted to be more local to the family, that way she could attend the funeral and provide some support to her remaining brothers and sisters.
she lives a considerable distance away from me at this moment in time.

Without naming your city, tell us more about it
by JH inwhere i live, you can smell the odor of paper mills.
it's a port city and people speak french here.
i think the average age of people here is one of the higest in canada.. there is a shrine that attracts many tourists in the summer time.

Hello againEllie, I know where you are i've been over to Ireland from there by ferry a couple of times. I tend to fly there now and hire a car, its a lot quicker.
I think your town was voted one of the most boring places in Britain in a recent BBC survey, which is a bit harsh, I think my town came about 7th.

Where I live its not big enough to be called a city its a town, theres only about 20,000 people and well spread out with lots of trees, fields, rivers and wildlife. Night life is c**p there is only one night club and thats c**p!
That woman that was going out with Hugh Grant when he was caught with his pants down, can't remember her name, you know her posh voice? long legs? Elizabeth Hurley. (just remembered) she was born here and Tanita Tikarum. Anyone heard of her? Famous singer in the late 80's.
I think Sean Connery drove through here once, didn't stop though, too busy.

Baptisim/Disfellowshipping & Age
by Krystal ini apologize if i am re-posting a topic that was already discussed, but i have a question:.
i was baptised when i was 14 and disfellowshipped at 17... major life changing decisions all made before i was 18. .
has anyone ever tried to have their baptisim/disfellowshipping annulled based on the fact that they were too young to enter into such a contract?

First of all you need to consider why we are encouraged to get baptised at such an early age.
In my mind it is because when we are older and able to think more clearly for ourselves and realise what kind of cult we are involved in we are too scared to leave for fear of loosing contact with family and friends.
Its a numbers game as well for the WTBTS the more people they have baptised, no matter what thier age, the more they can gloat to the "outside world" about thier growing in numbers.

Just Had A Big Surprise!!
by Sunspot inhubby just came in from work and said that a gal that i knew from the kh had come in and they were talking about me.
she said that it had been announced back in '99 that i had been dfed, and she was shocked to hear that i had left on my own and the way that i had.
(i daed myself by letter)

I hope you find them, I would love to find people that I know have been disfellowshipped since I was.

What was "it" that opened your eyes?
by jiggulz inlike so many people, i'm (very carefully)trying to convey the obvious "truth" about the wtb&ts to some of the members of my family.
is there any key point that "stands out" in your memory as pivotal in the opening of your eyes?
or any particular point that may have opened the eyes of your loved ones?

For me it was realising that if I didn't go to the KH I could watch football down the pub with my mates on a sunday afternoon. FANTASTIC!
Also more recently the cover-up of child abuse sickens me. How could elders think that they have the right to decide if these people are guilty or not? Also realising that the bible is just a few stories put together over a period of time.

What MUST Jw's believe that they don't KNOW they believe?
by AlmostAtheist ini'm looking for beliefs of jw's that have the consequence of also requiring some other belief that they may not like or be able to explain.. for instance, you probably believe that there are an infinite number of numbers, since you can always add 1 to any number and make a new one.. what you may not think about as a consequence of that belief is that you can also start with 2, add 2, and create an infinite series of even numbers.
the set of even numbers is infinite, and the set of whole numbers (which would fully encompass the even numbers) is also infinite.
so which set is bigger?

sir82, I love the point on the ark! Can't wait until I get the next jw knocking on my door. Another point to add, if two of each animal was taken into the ark I would take an educated guess & say this included kangaroos? Now as we are lead to believe the ark came to rest on mount sini (I think thats how it's spelt) then how the heck did they get to Australia? Im no expert at these kind of things but can kangaroos swim?.....A FEW HUNDRED MILES? Mind you they can jump. That must be the answer I'm converted....ah....I've just seen a hedgehog in my garden I don't think his ancestors swam here.....I wonder If a bird carried him? Sorry just trying to keep an open mind.

Anyone take up smoking after leaving the borg?
by AK - Jeff ini still consider it a bad habit with health concerns.
but i am honestly attracted to the idea of a pipe and cherry tobacco.. i have joked of it some with wifey, but not too serious.
maybe though just an occasional pipe or a cuban would be ok?.

Hi Ellie, thanks for the welcome. I must just add to my previous post that although I do smoke I wish I had never started! I don't smoke in my house as I hate smoke filled rooms. Yellow fingers, smelly clothes, bad breath why do we do it? I think I will give up...now....no tomorrow......well soon anyway.

I took up smoking, I've gone on to the roll-ups now, I get baccy cheap in Spain. I have also been known to drink to excess at times, although I have regretted it the following morning! I've tried dope on occasions you need to be in the right company as sitting giggling in the corner on your own can be embarrassing! I haven't coveted thy neighbours wife though, she's 70 something, so i'm not that bad.
This is my first post by the way, I have been out of the mind control for 14 years. I look forward to chatting to you all.
